Betty E. Woodling, age 92, formerly of Granger Township, passed away Wednesday, January 21, 2015 in Plano, TX. Betty was born May 22, 1922 in Parkersburg, WV to the late George and Grace (Wilson) Nicely. She was formerly a member of Remsen Christian Church and greatly enjoyed raising horses on their property in Granger. She will always be remembered as the beloved wife of the late Gene Woodling, who played in the major leagues for 20 years, with the Cleveland Indians, New York Yankees, New York Mets, Baltimore Orioles and Washington Senators. Betty and Gene were married for 59 years.
She is survived by her children Pamela (Fred) Golden, Gene Woodling, and Kimberly (Alan) Struble; grandchildren Brooks Mathews and Casey (Brandon) Long; as well as her expectant great-grandchild Holland Grace Long.
Betty is preceded in death by her sister Helen Strickman; and brothers Edward and Paul Nicely.
Services will be held Saturday, January 24, at 12:00 P.M., at the Waite & Son Funeral Home, 765 N. Court St., Medina. Rev. Doug Lewis will officiate. Burial will follow at Granger Fairview Cemetery. Family will receive Saturday from 10 – 12 P.M. prior to services at the funeral home.
