Candy L. McKenzie, 54, of Medina, passed away peacefully after a long battle with cancer on Friday, July 23, 2021. Candy was born on August 1,1966 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Dale Fowler (2010) and Marian Smith.  Candy graduated from Brunswick High School and Medina JVS in 1984.  She worked as a firefighter / EMT in the late 80's before settling into a successful 23-year career, working in the ER at Medina General Hospital.  Candy was an avid crocheter and painter and she loved to read.  She portrayed her typical 'Candy stubbornness' up until her final days, even proclaiming then that she had 10 years left.  Throughout it all, Candy continued her loving personality while promoting bravery and an example of how to be strong in the face of cancer.

Candy is survived by her husband of 32 years, David McKenzie of Medina, OH; her daughters, Angela (Ben) Smith of Benton, AR, and Jennifer (Clifford) Barton of Medina, OH; Big sister to, Kris Fowler of Astoria, OR; and a proud Nana to, Cheyenne McKenzie, Brooklyn Smith, Larken Smith, and Keirra Barton; further survived by countless family members and a lifetime of collected friends, whom she loved dearly.

Candy's family would like to thank her Medina hospital family, Medina PD, and all who continuously showered her with love and support.  You all truly helped make her life full.

Continuing in stubborn Candy tradition, there will be no funeral or calling hours, however, a celebration of life party will be announced, at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society in her name.
