Carla Julia
Zickel
June 9, 1943 – June 27, 2025
Carla Julia Zickel (Psenicka), 82, passed away peacefully at her home at The Village of St. Edwards – Wadsworth on June 27, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born and raised in Parma, Ohio, Carla was the daughter of the late Karl and Olga Psenicka (Dianiska). She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 50 years, Samuel Raymond Zickel.
Carla leaves behind a loving legacy through her children—Raymond Zickel, Denise (Frank) Hager, and Scott (Marcy) Zickel—and her seven treasured grandchildren: Justin, Tyler, Kendall, Camille, Griffin, Benjamin, and Sammy. She is also survived by her sister, Noreen Zickel (Psenicka), and many dear friends who were like family.
A proud graduate of Parma High School, Class of 1961, Carla went on to attend Kent State University. She met Sam, the love of her life, at church during childhood. Their bond grew through high school and culminated in marriage in 1965 at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church.
Carla's professional journey included roles as an elementary school teacher, event coordinator, and later, a dedicated member of Hospice of the Western Reserve, where she found deep purpose in supporting others.
In retirement, Carla embraced life fully—traveling with friends and cousins, hosting gatherings, and cherishing every moment with her children and grandchildren. Affectionately known as "Mimi" and "Grammy", she was deeply involved in her grandchildren's lives and took great joy in their accomplishments.
Carla will be remembered for her warmth, strength, and unwavering love as a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.
A memorial service will be held on July 12th at 11:00 at The Bath Church United Church of Christ, 3980 Bath Road, Akron, Ohio 44333.
