Carolyn J Newman

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Carolyn J. Newman, surrounded by the love of her family. Her life was a testament to kindness, compassion, and unwavering faith, and she will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Carolyn was the beloved wife of Arthur E. Newman, with whom she shared 60 years of marriage. Together, they built a family grounded in love and respect. Carolyn is survived by her cherished children, Dawn Serrilli (Marc), Christie Connolly (Tom) Arthur Newman III (Amy). Her legacy continues to flourish through her grandchildren Ashley Knudsen (Mathias), Richard Hogshead (Hannah), and Sophia Connolly, as well as her great-grandchildren, Emmett Daughtery and Ainsley Hogshead.

Carolyn also held a special place in her heart for her goddaughter, Sara Stojak (Matt). Survived by a sister Dorothy Rutherford and a brother James Cole that she loved dearly.

Preceded in death by her parents, Herman T. Mathews and Mary Evelyn Vanlear, her sisters Mary Catherine, Ilene and Margaret, and her dear grandson Chase W. Pierce, Carolyn's memory will forever be cherished by her surviving family and friends.

For 43 years, Carolyn dedicated her career to the LEARN Regional Education Center in Old Lyme, CT, retiring in 2023. Her passion for education extended beyond her professional life, as she spent over 40 years as a devoted Sunday school and Awana teacher. Carolyn's commitment to nurturing young minds was evident every Monday night when she joyously gathered neighborhood children, treated them to dinner at McDonald's, and transported them to Awana.

A pillar of her community, Carolyn was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Waterford, CT for more than four decades. Most recently, she found a spiritual home at Heartland Community Church in Medina, Ohio.

Carolyn's warm and loving smile was her hallmark, and she had an extraordinary ability to make everyone feel welcome and cherished. Her kindness and generosity left an indelible mark on the countless lives she touched.
