Catherine Demczyk

Catherine A. "Cathy" Demczyk, 73, of Culpeper, Virginia, formerly of Medina, Ohio, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2026, surrounded by her beloved sister and nieces.

Cathy was born in Youngstown, Ohio, the daughter of the late Walter J. Wills and Velma L. Wills (Goddard). She graduated as a member of the National Honor Society from Fitch High School in 1971. Cathy earned an Associate of Applied Science degree from Lorain County Community College and went on to work dedicatedly as a Medical Laboratory Technician at Wadsworth-Rittman Hospital.

On March 21, 1981, Cathy married Ted Demczyk of Medina, Ohio, where she made her home and built a life for 43 years. Together, Cathy and Ted adopted two children, Dean Demczyk and Gina Krakowski (Demczyk). Cathy also lovingly raised Ted’s son, Stephen Demczyk. Cathy leaves behind her three grandchildren who were never far from her thoughts; she held a deep affection for them and took great joy in sending them birthday and Christmas gifts each year.

Following her husband's passing, Cathy remained in Ohio for several years. During this time, her sister-in-law’s family warmly embraced her, ensuring she was included in some holiday celebrations and family gatherings. Cathy also leaves behind her brothers, David Wills and William Wills, both of Youngstown, Ohio, her sister, Nancy Wills of Culpeper, Virginia, and many nieces and nephews.

Cathy was a warm, social soul who found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved playing cards, mastering board games, and watching her favorite television shows. She possessed a thoughtful heart, never missing the opportunity to send a card or a message for a loved one's birthday. Cathy also treasured her opportunities to travel, especially her memorable trips to Russia and Hawaii. Above all, she cherished good conversation and quality time spent with her family and friends.

For over 40 years, Cathy valiantly lived with Myotonic Dystrophy. Fiercely independent, Cathy fought to maintain her autonomy, a personal triumph made possible by a compassionate community of support. Her dear friend Ute and other dedicated helpers provided the crucial assistance she needed to continue living on her own terms. Cathy was also incredibly grateful for the unwavering devotion of her sister, Nancy, who provided vital care and coordination, visiting her in Ohio frequently before ultimately helping Cathy relocate to Virginia to care for her as her condition progressed. Through every challenge, Cathy's resilience, desire for independence, and love for the family and friends who chose to surround her shone brightly.

Family will receive friends on Thursday, September 3, 2026 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Waite Funeral Home, 765 N. Court St., Medina, Ohio. A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 4, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest at Spring Grove Cemetery, 785 E. Washington St., Medina, Ohio.
