Charles T. Althoff, 79, of Hinckley, Ohio passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 7, 2026.
Chuck attended Fenn College (now Cleveland State University) to become a civil engineer, married Barbara Macken and had three children, David, Laura and Cheryl. He moved the family to the upper peninsula of Michigan to work for the US Forest Service then returning to Ohio in 1980, residing in Hinckley. Through the course of his career, Chuck was the city engineer for North Royalton and retired as Cuyahoga County Sanitary Engineer.
He enjoyed woodworking, being a handyman and loved helping his children with their homes. He particularly enjoyed spending time with his four granddaughters, Morgan, Colleen, Kendall, and Justine. He was their biggest fan supporting them in softball, volleyball, cheerleading, marching band, and other school activities. Chuck enjoyed playing mahjong with the neighborhood ladies and hosting full moon bonfires that brought together neighborhood friends for a night filled with great conversation and laughter. Chuck will be remembered as a loving father, an amazing grandpa, and a good friend. In addition to his children and grandchildren, Chuck is survived by his sister, Susan Mack.
No service will be held per Chuck's wishes. To honor him, a full moon bonfire pig roast will be held Saturday, May 30, 2026 at his residence. Please join us any time after 4:30 p.m. Bring your lawn chair.
