Darlene Rita (Bartelme) Becker, age 86, of Valley City, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on December 17, 2025. She was born January 27, 1939, in Cleveland, Ohio.
Darlene had a curious mind and a creative spirit. She loved reading, gardening, yoga, and water aerobics at the Brunswick Rec Center. She enjoyed lively conversations with friends at Kelly's Café and took pleasure in visiting with friends and neighbors whenever she could. A past member of St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, Darlene was a member of the greeter and bereavement ministries.
She had a deep appreciation for the arts and especially loved music, theater, and art. One of her greatest joys was her family, and she was especially proud of her children and grandchildren—particularly of Griffin's musical talents, which brought her immense happiness. She also enjoyed shopping, chocolate, and eating ice cream sundaes with her daughter, Deborah.
Darlene was preceded in death by her husband of more than 44 years, John Becker; her parents, Louis and Alberta (Roggenburk) Bartunek; her son, Lawrence; her son-in-law, Michael Sukey; and her sister, Rosemary (Carroll) Wagner.
She is survived by her loving children, Deborah (Michael) Sukey, Joseph (Mavis) Becker, and Jeffery (Karren) Becker; daughter-in-law, Karen Becker (Bill Bishoff); grandchildren, Craig, Jesse, Erik, Jenny, Kaely, Griffin, Jacob, and Alyssa; and great-grandchildren, Greyson, Geniveve, Lawrence, Beatrice, James, Aubrey, Raelyn, and Kallaehan.
Darlene will be remembered for her kindness, her love of conversation, her artistic soul, and her unwavering devotion to her family. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched and the love she shared so freely.
The family will welcome guests from 10:00 to 11:00 am on Monday, December 29, 2025, with a Mass of Christian Burial immediately following at 11:00 am at St. Ambrose Catholic Parish, 929 Pearl Road, Brunswick, Ohio. She will be laid to rest privately at Eastlawn Memory Gardens in Brunswick.
Darlene's family wishes to extend a special thanks to her caregivers, especially the Fairview Hospital Family and the Cleveland Clinic Hospice Caregivers: Dr. Tracy Gulling-Leftwich, Phillip, Tyler, Audrey, and Chaplain Abraham.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Darlene's name to St. Ambrose Parish or Cleveland Clinic Hospice.
