Darryl Raymond
Hawn
April 2, 1936 – April 13, 2026
St. Paul’s Episcopal Church
Starts at 1:00 pm
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Darryl Raymond Hawn, of Medina, Ohio. Darryl was born on April 2, 1936, in Toledo, Ohio, to the late Raymond Andrew and Reba Lucille (Maxwell) Hawn Meyer. He transitioned out of this life on April 13, 2026, at the age of 90. Over the course of his life, he touched many lives with his wisdom and kindness.
Darryl graduated from the University of Toledo in 1958 with a Bachelor of Business Administration. Following graduation, he began his military service when he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the United States Army. During his 26-year military career, he served in multiple assignments worldwide, holding roles as a field artillery commander, staff officer, and resource director. His expertise encompassed manpower structure, operations, and training. In addition, he served two tours in Vietnam. He retired as a colonel in 1984 at Fort Monroe, Virginia. After his time in the military, he began a second chapter managing a large orthopedic practice. In his later years, he continued to serve his community by
providing credit counseling and tax preparation.
Darryl had a lifelong passion for music. He participated in various singing groups and, in his early years, performed as a soloist on the radio. He also enjoyed photography and any type of home project—a true tinkerer at heart. Committed to his faith, he served several times as senior warden in churches wherever his travels took him and generously volunteered his time when help was needed.
In 2004, he and Jeanne moved to Sedona, Arizona, for their golden years. He was happiest there, drawn to the beauty of the Southwest, especially the red rocks of Sedona. The 14 years they spent there were a meaningful and cherished part of their life before moving back to Ohio to be closer to family.
Most of all, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, always putting his family first. He was thoughtful, genuine, and meticulous in everything he did. As a man of strong moral character, he lived with integrity and compassion and believed in equality and respect for all.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Brett Hawn. He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Jeanne (Ricker) Hawn; loving daughters Cathleen Brnilovich (Robert) and Beth Oliver (Robert); grandchildren Brittany Hawn, Alexa Brnilovich (Tyler Plys), Lance Hawn-Schmitt (Ashlee), Calvin Brnilovich, Clark Brnilovich, Megan Hawn, Luca Oliver, Nicholas Oliver; and great-grandchildren Laine Hawn-Schmitt, Sela Plys, and Bennett Hawn-Schmitt.
A memorial service celebrating Darryl's life will be held on Sunday, May 24, 2026, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Medina, Ohio at 1:00 p.m. A reception will immediately follow in the gallery. We invite all who knew and cared about Darryl to join us in honor of his memory. A private interment will be held in Sedona, Arizona, at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the endowment funds of either St. Paul's Episcopal Church of Medina, Ohio, or St. Andrew's Episcopal Church of Sedona, Arizona. Another cause dear to his heart was Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, Utah.
