David H.
Hathaway
August 27, 1938 – May 4, 2022
David Henry Hathaway, age 83, peacefully passed away surrounded by his family on Wednesday, May 4, 2022. He was born August 27, 1938, to the late Dr. H. R. and Mrs. Lila (nee Barker) Hathaway in Lakewood, Ohio. David followed the family tradition to attend Wittenberg University and became a devoted Tiger Alumni. He began his career in Berea as a math teacher at Roehm Junior High. His love of learning and teaching continued to Strongsville where he was an administrator at both the high school and Center Junior High.
Dave's true passion was the outdoors. He spent over 30 years in Maine tripping on the Allagash River and teaching canoeing and outdoor living skills at Wild Goose Camp for Boys. For the last 25 years he enjoyed his cottage on Leesville Lake in Carrollton, Ohio. His love and enjoyment of wilderness adventures was always evident as he taught family, friends and campers to appreciate, respect and cherish the great outdoors.
Left to celebrate David's life is his loving wife of almost 59 years, Suzanne (nee Schwinn) Hathaway; his children, Janet Lynn (Bob) Sawitzke, Sharon Lee Hathaway, David Henry Hathaway II; his cherished grandchildren, Robert David Sawitzke and Meghan Grace Sawitzke; his siblings, Harvey, Melvin and Shirley; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
