David Michael
Tome
April 29, 1942 – September 9, 2024
David M. Tome, age 82, of Medina, Ohio, passed away on September 9, 2024. He was born to Charles and Betty Jean (Hoerger) Tome on April 29, 1942, in Cleveland, Ohio. Dave earned his bachelor's degree at Cleveland State University and master's degree at Ashland University. He had a long career as an electrical engineer in the aerospace and industrial fields, and in 1984 founded his own manufacturer's representative firm.
Dave was known for his dry sense of humor and unique way of looking at the world. He was a music lover, particularly folk and old-time rock 'n roll. An avid reader, he especially enjoyed books about astronomy, physics, mathematics, organic gardening, and cryptography. He was a sports fan and played volleyball and bowled when he was younger. Dave also built a number of pieces of furniture which have become family heirlooms. He found special peace being out in nature, watching local wildlife, and feeding the birds. He was part of a group of friends who have remained close since their Cleveland school days, still regularly getting together for cards, dinner, and company.
Dave is survived by his wife of 61 years, Joan (Miller); his children, Jeffrey (Lisa) and Janet; his grandchildren, Madeline and Lucas; his faithful cat, O.J.; siblings, Linda Sammon (Brian), Don Tome, Sandy Unger, Kathy Somerville, and Dan Tome; numerous nieces and nephews; and a lifetime of friends and colleagues. He is, and will forever be, dearly missed.
Family will receive friends to celebrate Dave's life on Friday, September 20, 2024, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Waite & Son Funeral Home, 765 N. Court St., Medina, OH 44256.
