Dennis F. Taras Sr., age 73, passed away unexpectedly on July 31st, 2024. He was born on November 23rd, 1950, to Harry S. and Carla (Christensen) Taras during the blizzard of 1950.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years Nancy (Kortan) Taras, 4 children Bonnie (Kenneth) Shepard, Deborah (Christopher) Snyder, Robert (Natalie) Taras, and Dennis (Heather) Taras Jr., 11 grandchildren Zachary (Maria) Snyder, Noah Stevenson, Nathan (Brianna) Taras, Christian Snyder, Emily Taras, Charlie Shepard, Sawyer Taras, Jenna Shepard, Madalyn Taras, Savannah Snyder, and Leo Taras, 2 great grandchildren Ronan Snyder and Riley Taras, his brothers Ronald Taras, Donald (Lynne) Taras, Kevin (Carla) Taras, and Carl (Diane) Taras, and many extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his brother Harry Taras and his parents.
Dennis enjoyed model trains, restoring his 1929 Ford Model A Tudor Sedan, cruising in his retro convertible Ford Thunderbird with his wife Nancy, and camping in his motorhome with his friends and family. He was a lifetime member of FOPA Lodge 14, an active member of Good Sam and FMCA camping clubs, and a lifetime member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America. He was a highly skilled union master carpenter that received numerous awards for his exceptional craftmanship. He worked in commercial and residential construction and enjoyed furniture and cabinet making, especially for his family. Together with his brother Donald, they helped pioneer energy efficient housing in the greater Cleveland area with their company Taras Construction and Consulting including the construction of his own home.
Visitation will be held from 3-7 p.m., Sunday, August 4, 2024, at Waite & Son Funeral Home, 3300 Center Rd., Brunswick, where funeral services will take place at 11 a.m., Monday, August 5th. Interment will take place at North Royalton Cemetery.
Having been a kidney transplant survivor for 42 years the family wishes in lieu of flowers that contributions be made in memory of Dennis to the Kidney Foundation of Ohio, 2831 Prospect Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio 44115 or the St Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.
