Obituary

Denzil R. Clevenger 92, went home to be with his Lord on August 11, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 23, 1932 to the late Alvin and Ora Mae (Kirkpatrick) Clevenger in Burnthouse, WV. Denzil made his home in Medina since 1963.

Denzil is preceded in death by his first wife of 47 ½ years, JoAnn (Poll), infant son Timothy, seven brothers and four sisters, and a step son Keith Kerns.

Denzil enjoyed hunting with his sons and brothers on the family farm in WV, gardening, sports and eating at the Hungry Bear in Litchfield. In his younger days, he loved officiating Wayne County High School basketball games and coached little league baseball. He was also an umpire for Valley City little league and a Scout Master for Cub Scouts. Denzil was a certified welder for Babcox – Wilcox for 28 years, retiring in 1994.

He was also a charter member of Lighthouse Baptist Fellowship and currently a member of Triangle Baptist Church in Chippewa Lake, Oh. Denzil also enjoyed preaching the Gospel.  He lived a full and enjoyable life! He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Denzil is survived by his wife of 17 years, Eunice (Kerns) Clevenger, sons Gerald (Debbie) of Rittman, Oh, David of Catawba Island, Oh and Christopher (Jaime) of Akron, Oh. Granddaughter Rachel (Justin) Keith of Rittman, Oh, Great Grandchildren Lincoln and Bailee Keith. Stepchildren; Janet (Richard) Battagline of Chippewa Lake, Oh, Gary (Veronica) Kerns, Flagler Beach, FL, Bruce (Patricia) Kerns, Lodi, Oh, Timothy Kerns, Spencer, Oh, Terry Kerns (Scott Decker) Las Vegas, NV, seven step grandchildren and three step great grandchildren.

A Celebration of life service will be held at Waite & Sons in Medina on Thursday August 15, 2024, 11:00 am with visitation and light refreshments one hour before service. Officiating will be his son, Reverend Gerald (Gerry) Clevenger with graveside service at York cemetery where he will be laid to rest.

The family would like to thank Dr. Jain, the nurses and staff of Cleveland Clinic Medina hospital and the Cleveland Clinic Hospice nurses who took care of Denzil during the final ten days of his life here on earth.
