Dorothy E. Wasniak, age 102, of Medina, Ohio, passed away on February 20, 2025. She was born to Andrew and Anna (Krafcik) Yahnak on January 14, 1923, in Dearth, Pennsylvania. Dorothy was married to her beloved husband Richard for 53 years. She was a talented seamstress; she will be remembered for the beautiful swimsuits, clothes and stuffed dolls that she made. She and her husband planted and maintained wonderful gardens. Dorothy lived in many areas of the country due to her husband's job. Wherever they were, Dorothy and her husband were known as incredible hosts, opening their home to family and friends for holidays and get-togethers.
Dorothy was an incredible swimmer. She made it onto the U.S. Olympic Swim Team during WWII, although the Olympics were then cancelled due to the war. For many years she taught swimming including synchronized swimming. Many years later, in 2023 at age 100, Dorothy swam at the Brunswick Recreation Center as the Brunswick High School Swim Team watched.
Dorothy is survived by her nieces and nephews, Dorothy Thomas (Brad), Marilyn Douglas (Tim), Karen Wodzak (Ken), Tim Fraundorf (Fran), and Diane Tonkli (Mario); many nieces and nephews on Richard's side of the family; and many great nieces and nephews. Wasniak in 2003; her siblings, Andrew Joseph Yahnak, Veronica Buffa, Ann Lazor, Mary Fusile, Helen Ketterer, Katherine Lewis, Agnes Fraundorf, John Yahnak, and George Yahnak; and numerous nieces and nephews.
