Edward M. Frimel, Sr., 89, of Valley City, passed away March 21, 2025.
He was the son of John and Mary (nee Radosevich) Frimel and was born on September 28, 1935 in Palmer, Pennsylvania. Oldest brother to Irene (Al Crawford), John (Loretta), Joe (Joanne), Frank (Georgann), Ann, Chuck (Gale), and Tom (Karen). Preceded in death by his parents, sister Ann, brothers Frank and John. He left the coal mining community of Pennsylvania for Ohio in 1956, joined by his sister Irene to find work, to help support the young Frimel family when the coal mines shut down. He started working in the steel mill (FKA Republic Steel) in Cleveland. Soon thereafter, he met and married his wife Rita Spirko in 1960. He continued to "move up the ladder" in the steel mill: from the mail room to supervisor in the metallurgical lab. Father to Theresa and Ed (Kathy, nee Chesmel). The family enjoyed watching, coaching and playing sports; travels to visit family in Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Canada; uncles, aunts and cousins, too many to count! Post retirement cruises, road trips to Arizona and Las Vegas with his wife!
Uncle to 20 plus nieces and nephews, great-uncle to so many! Papa to Scott, Nick (Kelsey, nee O' Laughlin), Kurt and Kyle. Layla, Presley and Weston were his great's!
Gardening, painting and woodworking were some hobbies. His favorite flower: Marigold. The fragrance reminded him of his mother!
He was known for his generous spirit, wit, and uncanny ability to synthesize sports statistics. His favorite charities were St. Jude, Boys Town and the Ohio Lottery!
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, March 28, 2025, at St. Ambrose Catholic Parish, 929 Pearl Rd., Brunswick.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Boys Town (www.boystown.org), St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (www.stjude.org), or to the Ohio Lottery.
