Eric Julius Daiber, 89, passed away in Medina on Wednesday, May 8, 2024. Born on Dec 17th, 1934, in Cleveland, Ohio to Emil and Elfrieda Smith Daiber. He graduated from John Marshall High School in 1953. After six months at Case Institute of Technology, he enrolled at the Univ of Cincinnati in a five-year co-op business program. Eric was a member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity. Having a six-year military obligation, he joined the Ohio National Guard after graduation from UC and was sent to Fort Knox, KY for six months basic training. After his military experience, he entered his father's manufacturing business, the Aero Instrument Co. in Cleveland in 1959. The major product at Aero was electrically heated airspeed tubes which were sold to the US Military among many others. In 1960 he married Ellen Harris and in 1961 he was recalled into the U.S. Army. His son Mark was born in 1962 in a U.S. Naval hospital at Annapolis, MD and daughter, Tara was born in 1963 at Fairview, OH.
Eric spent his entire career at Aero Instrument in tandem with his father when they built a new factory in 1966. He enjoyed his work at Aero Instrument and when his father died in 1980, he became President and majority owner. Eric's marriage to Ellen was dissolved in 1993 and he married Charlotte Karson of Medina, OH. in 1996. He sold the company in 2001 and retired to Charlotte's farm in Medina, Ohio. In 2020 he wrote a book relating the history of the Aero Instrument Company. Eric enjoyed handball, racquetball, tennis, softball, and skiing. Continuing his interest in photography he worked as a freelance news photographer for the Medina newspapers. He was a member of the American Institute of Aviation and Astronautics (AIAA), the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the American Aviation History Society, The Medina County Historical Society, the United Church of Christ, Congregational, and the Medina Odd Fellows.
Eric is survived by his wife Charlotte Karson; his son Mark (Paula) Daiber, daughter Tara (Russ) Gifford, grandchildren, Zachary (Farnaz) Daiber, Haley (Blair) Brannon, Kelsey Daiber, Russell and Ian Gifford and great grandson Justin Daiber; step sons Jeffery (Janet) Karson and Kris (Meenu) Karson, step grandchildren AJ, Kayla, Charlotte and Angus; his sisters Evelyn Workman, Gretchen Daiber and Patricia Downey; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
The family will receive visitors on Saturday, June 1, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. - 12 noon at Waite and Son Funeral Homes, Medina Chapel, 765 N. Court St., Medina, OH 44256, immediately followed by a memorial service at 12 noon.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions in Eric's memory to The Medina County Historical Society or the American Heart Association.
