Frederick "Fred" William Leib III passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of service, dedication, and deep love for his family. Born on November 24, 1931, in Cleveland, Ohio, Fred lived a life rooted in integrity, curiosity, and quiet strength.
Fred proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. After returning home, he continued that service to his community as a Cleveland Police Detective. He retired in 1990 after many years of dedicated service.
Beyond his career, Fred was a man of many passions. He found joy on the golf course, especially during his retirement years at Cherokee Hills Golf Course, where he not only worked and played the game he loved but also built friendships. Earlier in life, he was a talented baseball player and coach, leading several championship teams and taking great pride in mentoring young athletes. Whether on the field or the course, Fred brought patience, encouragement, and a genuine love of the game.
Above all, Fred was a family man. His greatest pride and joy came from the people he loved. He is survived by his devoted daughter, Sherry Duniec (Michael), who carries forward his strength and kindness. He was a cherished grandfather to Jaclyn Deike (John), Matthew Scullen (Tiffany), Lauren Scullen, Michael Jones (Sarah), David Jones (Sarah), Michael Duniec (Allison), and Matthew Duniec. His legacy continues to grow through his adored great-grandchildren—Aiden, Ava, Caleb, Harrison, Callum, Noah, Anastacia, Victoria, Auggie, and Ella—each of whom brought him immense happiness.
Fred is also survived by his siblings, Joan Williamson and Kenneth Leib (Barbara), along with many extended family members and friends who were touched by his steady presence and warm heart.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Dolores M. Leib, with whom he shared a lifetime of love, partnership, and devotion. Though they have been apart in years, there is comfort in knowing they are reunited. He was also preceded by his son, Robert Leib; his parents, Frederick Leib II and Myrtle Leib; and his brother-in-law, Ralph Williamson.
Fred will be remembered as an athlete, a legendary storyteller, and an amazing father figure.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate Fred's life on Saturday, February 21, 2026, with visitation from 1:00–2:00 PM, followed by a service at 2:00 PM at Waite Funeral Home, 3300 Center Road, Brunswick, Ohio 44212. The ceremony will include military and police honors in recognition of Fred's dedicated service to both his country and his community.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Fred's memory to Thomas P. Perciak Family Residential Hospice in Strongsville, Ohio, in honor of the compassionate care he received.
He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever carried in the hearts of those who knew him.
