Obituary

Garland "Dean" Henderson, 81, of West Salem, passed away on Tuesday, December 31, 2019, at Sycamore Run Rehabilitation, in Millersburg. He was born on March 14, 1938, in Manchester, to the late Ermal and Wilma (Flanders) Henderson.

Dean received a degree in teaching from Southern State Community College in 1986 and went on to serve our Country in the United States Navy, retiring after 26 years of honorable service. He was a member of the Church of God, in Ashland, and was known for playing a mean game of pool.

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Barbara (Jones) Henderson; children, Clinton Dean Henderson, Dana Leland Henderson, and DeAnna Avanell (Timothy) Oakes; grandchildren, James Henderson, Robert Oakes, and Starla Lane; Great-grandchildren, Danielle, Shyla, Sadie, Sophie, Darian, Brian, Marissa, Robert Joseph (RJ), Keegan and Jason.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Herbert, Butch and Junior; his sisters, Eileen and Joyce; and his granddaughter, Sandra Oakes.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 7, 2020, from 10-12 noon, at the Waite and Son Funeral Home, 765 N Court Street, Medina, 44256. A funeral service will begin at 12 noon. Pastor Brother Canon will be officiating. Burial will follow at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
