George Herman Louis Promenschenkel, age 86, of Medina, passed away Tuesday, May 13, 2008, at Medina Village Retirement Community. Known to many as Promey, he was born on February 8, 1922, to the late Mary Stuhldreher and Harry Joseph Promenschenkel. He was active as a Boy Scout and then Boy Scout leader both in Ohio and in San Diego, California, where he lived with his family from 1957-1968. He served in the United States Army in the Second World War, in the Philippines and in Japan, and had earned the rank of Technician 4th Grade by early 1946 when he was honorably discharged. While living in California, he completed two years of college courses and worked for Rohr Aircraft, rising in the ranks to become an early computer programmer working in numerical control. In Ohio, he was a mail carrier for the US Postal Service and a Driver/Salesman for Longview Farms. He loved camping, gardening, model trains, dogs, and the American west. Roman Catholic by birth and confirmation, he was active in the United Church of Christ during his married life. He is preceded in death by Pearl Marcia Miller, to whom he was married from 1949-1994, by brother Bernard Promey, and by Arthur and Sally Huffman. He is survived by three children and their spouses, Sally Promey and Roger Fallot, Holly and Chris Koppelberger, and George and Chris Promenschenkel; by five grandchildren-- Anna Promey-Fallot and Jordan, Caitlin, Hannah, and Kelsey Koppelberger; and by brother and sister-in-law Leo and Adaline Promey of Avon Park, Florida. Services to be 11 a.m. Saturday at Waite and Son Funeral Homes Medina Chapel, with the Rev. Roger Fallot officiating. Friends may call 6-8 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home. Interment will be at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Crestline, Ohio.
