George Dudley
Scott
June 7, 1954 – November 6, 2024
George D. Scott, age 70, of Delaware, Ohio passed away peacefully on November 6, 2024, surrounded by family.
George was born on June 7, 1954 in Cleveland, Ohio. He was one of seven siblings and spent his childhood summers at Euclid Beach Park, where his father had once worked as a ride operator. George had dreams of becoming a pilot one day, but when his parents needed help financially, George took on a job with his dad at Independent Towel Co. at the age of 14. He graduated from West Tech High School in 1972 and eventually came to pursue a 40-year career in the trades as a painter. In 2017, George retired from the Cleveland Clinic.
In his younger years he enjoyed boating, camping, fixing things, roasting pigs, and traveling. His travels were varied and took him from Panama to Canada and thirty-eight states in between. In his final years, he spent his time doing his favorite things: traveling and visiting his children and grandchildren.
George was a quiet man, but when he spoke his words carried weight. He believed that respect and trust are earned and prided himself in his dedication to family and his work ethic. His worries were unspoken, his wants were very few, he was not one to boast or seek praise, and was the steady hand in the storm. He will be missed so deeply by his surviving loved ones.
George is survived by his three daughters Pollyanna (Blake) Reschke, Katherine (Hans) Schwarz, and Jennifer (Michael) Martin, and his grandchildren Estella, Logan, Amalia, Anderson, Kayla, Mackenzie, and great-grandfather to Ender. He also leaves behind his brothers and sisters Michael (Karen) Scott, Mary DiFranco, Carol (John) Zegarac, John Scott, Judith Scott, and Wady Thomas.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 42 years, Diana. While their journey may have had its fair share of difficulty, their love for each other always brought them back together and carried them through the roughest of times. He is also preceded in death by his mother, Georgene Scott; father, David H. Scott; sister, Linda and Anthony DiFranco; brother, James Scott, and sister-in-law, Barbara Scott. George was buoyed in his last days by the reminder of his impending reunion with the loved ones who passed before him.
The family will welcome guests from 1:00 to 6:00 pm on Sunday, November 10, 2024, at Waite Funeral Home, 3300 Center Road, Brunswick, Ohio, with a service beginning at 4:30 pm. George will be laid to rest privately.
