Obituary

Gerald Leroy "Jerry" Fritz, age 83, passed peacefully on Tuesday evening, January 13, 2026, surrounded by the legacy of love, faith, and family he spent a lifetime building.

Born on February 21, 1942, in Wadsworth, Ohio, Jerry was a longtime resident of Medina, a place he proudly called home. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Cheryl Kay Fritz; his parents, Kenneth and Connie Fritz; and his siblings Roddy, Cheri, and Charlene.

Jerry leaves behind a large and loving family who will forever cherish his guidance, humor, and unwavering faith. He is survived by his five children: Renee Summitt (Kevin), Tim Fritz (Trisha), Tom Fritz (Amy), Stephanie Toler (Kevin), and Rebecca Flohr (Troy).

He was a proud grandfather and great-grandfather to many. Renee and Kevin's children include Josh (Beverly), parents to Isla and Lola; Jordan (Alyson); Jared (Katie), parents to Warner and Saige; and Cody.

Tim and Trisha are parents to Manny and Ethan.

Tom and Amy's children include Jacquelyn (Jon), parents to Jameson and Jayde; Kenny (Erika), parents to Caelyn, Cooper, and Chase; Trenton (Julie), parents to Merrick and Malia; and Kallie (Matt), parents to Ellie.

Stephanie and Kevin's children include Jacob (Alexis), parents to Sadie and Daisy, Felicia (Collin), parents to Josiah, and Vincent.

Rebecca and Troy are parents to Kellyn.

For more than 40 years, Jerry faithfully served as a pastor, answering God's call with humility, joy, and steadfast devotion. He founded Buckeye Christian Assembly in Medina, where he poured his heart into sharing the love of Jesus and shepherding countless lives. His greatest passion was his faith, and he lived it daily—always ready with a prayer, a word of encouragement, or a warm smile.

Outside of ministry, Jerry found joy in life's simple pleasures. He was an avid Cleveland Cavaliers basketball fan, loved peddling produce through Amish Country, and never passed up a ripe, juicy summer tomato. He had a gift for conversation, a servant's heart, and a laugh that made people feel instantly at ease.

Jerry's life was one of purpose, generosity, and love. While he will be deeply missed, his family and friends rejoice in knowing he is now at peace and reunited with those who went before him—most especially his beloved Cheryl.

The service will be held at Buckeye Christian Assembly, 3159 Columbia Rd., Medina, Ohio, the church Jerry founded and loved so dearly, Sunday, January 18, 2026. Receiving Friends: 4:00–6:00 PM. Celebration of Life Service: 6:00 PM.  Arrangements are entrusted to Waite Funeral Home in Medina.
