Obituary

Geraldine "Gerry" Surmitis, 58, of Brunswick, passed away October 9, 2024 after battling a long illness.

She was born in Cleveland on May 2, 1966 to Joseph and the late Sarah (Juhn) Surmitis.

Gerry is survived by her spouse of 7 years, Dianna Hagar-Surmitis (Lehman); her father, Joseph (step-mother, Donna); children, Nathaniel and Jeremy Hagar; siblings, Dr. Joseph (Jane) Surmitis, Bernard (the late Cathy) Surmitis, and Greg Surmitis; and many step-brothers, step-sisters, nieces and nephews.

Gerry's career began in 1988 through 2005 at Dyment with a brief tenure at Transilwrap from 2005-2007. From 2007-2021, she finished her career working at Press Sense as an inside sales representative. She thoroughly enjoyed communicating with her customers and sales reps with a true sense of pride knowing that she was building lasting relationships.

She was loyal to the Cleveland Browns and the Cleveland Indians. She enjoyed hosting an annual tailgate and Super Bowl party. She rarely missed a Browns game or an Indians game and enjoyed going to the ballpark to watch a game too. Gerry also enjoyed playing Keno, cards, golfing, fishing and visiting the casino weekly. She greatly valued spending time with her family and friends. She valued the love and support from each of her friends and family, and found strength in those relationships. To know Gerry was to love her. She had a personality that attracted people to her. She was kind, loving and genuine. Gerry loved going to the zoo. She had a place in her heart for all animals, particularly her cats. It warmed her heart to rescue her fur babies and provide a good life for them.

Visitation will be held from 3-7 p.m., Friday, October 18, 2024, at Waite Funeral Home, 3300 Center Rd., Brunswick, where a Memorial Service will be held at 7 p.m. The family requests that you dress casually for the service and wear your favorite Browns or Indians clothes for Gerry. She'd love it!
