Ginger P.
Sheavly
October 1, 1954 – September 21, 2024
Ginger was born on October 1, 1954 in Fairbanks, Alaska to Cecil Pye & Beverly Adams and she passed away on September 21, 2024 after a courageous battle with Huntington's Disease. Ginger moved with her mother & siblings to her mother's hometown of Rochester, NY at a very young age. She attended various schools in Rochester and graduated from Wayne Central HS in 1972. She graduated from the Community College of the Finger Lakes in 1974, and it was during this time that she met her future husband, David, while the two of them were working at Roseland Amusement Park in Canandaigua, NY. She went on to graduate from the State University of New York at Oswego with a BS degree in Industrial Arts Education.
She and David began their life together when Ginger took a teaching job outside of Fayetteville, NC, where she became one of the first, (if not the first) female industrial arts teachers in NC. In 1979 she and David moved to Columbia, SC and on to Dayton, Ohio in 1980. While in Dayton, Ginger became very active in the community and her church, and that willingness to serve would continue for the remainder of her life. In addition to substitute teaching at Northmont Schools she was busy coaching youth softball and soccer. She also served on the boards of youth sports and church, and served as President of the United Methodist women. She played softball and indoor soccer and started a Before and After School Care program at Fairview UMC to support low-income families. At one point she had her own paint and wallpaper business. She did all of this while mothering her two daughters, Melanie and Stephanie.
A job transfer took David and family to Medina in 1994 where she immediately began to be involved with Welcome Wagon where she met many lifelong friends. Shortly after moving to Medina, Ginger earned her Master of Science degree in Technical Education from the University of Akron where she became an adjunct professor in the College of Education at UA for 15 years, teaching Instructional Technology to future educators and was inducted into the Omicron Tau Theta chapter at UA for her role in technical education. She also was a substitute teacher at various schools in the greater Medina area for a number of years. Her belief in service continued in Medina as she served on church boards, was active in the United Methodist Women, coached girls' softball and soccer, was on the Board of Directors at Rustic Hills Country Club and served as its President in 2011. Perhaps her favorite volunteer activity was serving at Cups Café for a number of years until Huntington disease prevented her from doing so. Ginger also enjoyed crime shows, Ken Follett books, sun tea, traveling, and everything related to her daughters and five grandchildren. She will be missed by her family, euchre buddies, book club friends, golfing girls, the neighborhood ladies and all the fun people she has met along her life's path. It was a life well lived, and full memories for those who knew her.
She is survived by David, her husband of 47 years, daughters Melanie Greene of Concord, North Carolina (husband Alan and children Samantha, JT, Evelyn and Ian), and Stephanie Mack of Middleburg Heights, OH (husband Ed and daughter Cora), as well as sisters Lorrie, Jennie, Rhonda and Diane. She was preceded in death by her brothers Charlie and Joseph, nephew Jonathan, and mother Beverly.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to either of the following locations: Huntington's Disease Foundation, online at hdsa.org or by mail to HDSA Northeast Ohio Chapter, PO Box 14668, Cleveland, OH 44114 or to the Hospice of Western Reserve (for benefit of Medina County) 17876 St Clair Avenue, Cleveland, OH 44110.
Visitation hours will be from 4-7PM on Friday October 4, 2024, at Waite Funeral Homes, Medina Chapel, 765 N. Court Street, Medina, OH 44256. A Funeral service will be conducted at the Medina United Methodist Church on Foote Road in Medina beginning at 10 AM on Saturday October 5, 2024.
