Obituary

Gwinn "Sharon" Carpenter, age 84, of Medina, OH slipped peacefully into the arms of our Savior on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2026, at her home at Medina Point Assisted Living. She was born July 15, 1941, in Charleston, WV.

On August 28, 1965, Sharon married the love of her life, Franklin Carpenter. In 1973, they moved to Medina where they built a beautiful life together rooted in love, family, and community.

Sharon was the most kind, gracious, loving and giving woman. To say she would give the shirt off her back to someone in need would be an understatement-- she gave freely of herself, both with her time and resources, always finding joy in helping others. Her generosity and compassion touched countless lives.

She was a devoted and loving mother, her daughter's biggest fan, unwavering cheerleader, and best friend. Sharon never missed a practice, game, concert, recital, or lesson, selflessly supporting her daughter's every dream and ambition. Her love was unconditional and steadfast.

When her grandchildren were born, she became a proud 2nd doting grandmother, lovingly known as "Mama". She cherished them deeply and showered them with the same love and devotion she gave her daughter. The arrival of her great granddaughters brought her even greater joy. Not long ago, she shared that those girls were her reason for living-- a testament to the depth of her love for her family.

Sharon was born with a rare genetic condition called Osteogenesis Imperfecta (Brittle Bone disease). Many may have seen her as disabled-- but she never saw herself that way. She was strong, stubborn, determined, and incredibly capable. When she set her mind to something, nothing could stand in her way.

She was also a devoted Christian, raised in the church and faithful throughout her life. As a recent member of Triangle Baptist Church, her faith was a guiding light in everything she did. Sharon's strength, resilience, and endless love shaped the woman her daughter is today. Her legacy will live on through the family she cherished so dearly.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years, Franklin Carpenter, her beautiful granddaughter, Cassandra "Cassie" Martin; and her parents Richard and Ruth Thomas.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Tani Michele Martin (Buddy) of Medina; her grandson, Michael Martin (Mackenzie) of Brunswick; her sisters, Janet Haid of Vero Beach, FL; Gloria Austin (Don) of Chattanooga, TN; Vicky Carney (Rick) of Charleston, WV; Nancy Jones (Rod) of Charleston, WV; her brothers, John Thomas of Charleston, WV; and Richard Thomas of Charleston, WV; and her cherished great granddaughters Lillian "Lilli" Ramsey of Toledo, and Amelia "Millie" Barnard of Medina. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and countless dear friends.

To know her was truly to love her.

The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the Remembrance Hospice team for their unmatched care and compassion. They also wish to thank the staff at Medina Pointe for making Sharon feel at home, and for the love, kindness, and care they provided to her through the end of her life.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 9th, 2026, at Waite Funeral Home, 765 N. Court St., Medina, Ohio 44256, with a funeral service at 5:30pm at the funeral home. Rev. Jerry Clevenger will officiate.

A graveside service will be held at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens in Cross Lanes, West Virginia, on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at 11:30am.
