Obituary

With profound sadness we announce the passing of Helen Stephanie Buddie of Cleveland, OH. She passed away peacefully at Kemper House at the age of 96. Helen was a loving and devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to all whose lives she touched. The Lord has opened his golden gates of heaven for her. Our family knows she is dancing her way to meet her late husband Leonard Buddie, her Parents Sophie and Frank Radkowski, and her brother Casimer (Casey) Radkowski, MD.

Helen is survived by her son Leonard Buddie (Eileen) of Brunswick, Ohio, and daughter Cynthia Schwartzmier (Thomas) of Pitsburgh, Pennsylvania. In additioon, her 5 grandchildren Geoffrey Buddie (Chris Rom), Jason Buddie (Amy), Jennifer Grotjahn-Buddie (Nick Grotjahn), Alexandria Scholze (Brian), and Bradley Schwartzmier. She was blessed, and considered herself a lucky lady to be able to cherish and love her great-grandchildren who brought much joy to her and kept her with us a little longer to see them blossom and grow—Oskar and Oliva Karas, Max and Jacob Buddie, and Kennedy and Ryder Scholze. In addition to her immediate family, she leaves behind many other family members and close friends, especially in the Greenbriar Community.

During Helen's early years she worked with her brother as his office manager at his Orthopedic Surgical practice in Cleveland, OH. When she was not working, she was spending time caring for her parents who came to the United States from Ukraine/Poland. When Helen and Leonard started their family, she added to her the responsibilities of being a loving mother. In her spare time, you could always find her in the garden, spending time at the church, collecting eggs from the chicken coop or preparing a family favorite dish in the kitchen.

In 2000, she and her husband sold their family home in Cleveland, Ohio and built a home in Greenbriar Senior Community in North Royalton, OH. She enjoyed her time staying active and participating in water aerobics, joining a bocce ball league, lunch and outings with the girls, bus tours, and holiday/event planning at the club house. Our family will always remember "mom/grandma's" cooking and the large holiday spreads she would prepare for us with some of our favorite Ukrainian/Polish dishes. We could never leave a family meal without enjoying one of her desserts made from scratch— pies, cheesecake, and angel food cake. In addition, to her cooking, we will never forget the love, dedication, and devotion she showed to all of us.
