Hilma M. Swoboda (née Dähn), age 90, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2026. Born on September 4, 1935, in Stettin, Germany, Hilma carried with her a deep appreciation for her German heritage, traditions, and language throughout her life.

Hilma was the beloved wife of Wendelin Swoboda, with whom she shared nearly 69 years of marriage. Together they raised a close-knit family, teaching their children the German language and culture, instilling strong values, and emphasizing the importance of hard work and caring for one another. They lived in Hinckley for 55 years and were blessed to have many good neighbors.

She was a loving mother to Jutta Swoboda, Gudrun Swoboda, Bernhard (Amy) Swoboda, and Anita Swoboda. Hilma was also a proud grandmother to Maria (David) Davenport, Dominic Gazzo (fiancée Jacqueline Gallant), Eddie (Sarah) Obissi, Elizabeth Swoboda, Grayson Swoboda, Wendel Mallory, and William Mallory; and a cherished great-grandmother to Ama and Becker Obissi.

She is also survived by her sister, Monika Gahrens of Hamburg, Germany, along with many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Hilma was preceded in death by her parents, Arnold and Anna (Conrad) Dähn, one brother, and two sisters.

An exceptional cook and baker, Hilma loved preparing meals and treats for those she loved. She was also an avid gardener whose yard reflected the same care and attention she gave to her family. Gifted with her hands, she enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and sewing, creating beautiful handmade treasures that will be cherished for generations.

Known for her quick wit and strong spirit, Hilma enjoyed socializing with friends and family and had a remarkable ability to make people laugh. She volunteered at the Hinckley Elementary School Library, supported the Donauschwaben's German-American Cultural Center, and helped with the German Central Organization’s Fish Fry.

The family will welcome guests from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 14, 2026, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 1088 Ridge Road, Hinckley, Ohio, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m.
