Obituary

Hugh Arthur Freeman, born in Parma Ohio on  February 13, 1937, passed away on Sept 3, 2024, in the place he loved most, his farm.  His late parents, Hugh and Katherine Freeman, purchased the farm in the 60's because of Hugh's passion for horses.

Hugh went into the Navy at the age of 17.  After serving in the military he went to work as a mechanic for his uncle in Michigan.  Upon returning to Ohio he worked as a mechanic with Marks Tractor and later retired from Columbia Township.

His true avocation for horses and collecting Watch Fobs inspired the creation of the International Watch Fob Association and he was instrumental in forming the Medina County Chapter of the Ohio Horseman's Council.

He is survived by  Louise Harting, his riding companion and partner of over thirty years; daughters, Kathleen Straka and Laura (Gary) Robinson; grandchildren, Kristin (Derrick) Shell, Joshua Scharfenberg, Rachel (Jeremy) Wilhelm, Keith (Mary) Piskur, Sheila (Jacob) Bramley, and Kevin (Stacy) Freeman; and twelve great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Carol (Ron) Rosson.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his daughter, Patrica Scharfenberg; son-in-law, Thomas Straka; brother Larry (Ellie) Freeman; and sister, Doloris (Max) Smykowski.

Hugh will always be remembered for his expert equestrian skills, as an excellent mechanic, and his ability to "fix" anything.
