James "Jim" Bruce Bushman, age 76, passed away Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at his home, after a courageous battle with cancer. Jim was born July 25, 1939 in Cleveland, OH to the late Roland and Evelyn (Liebler) Bushman. He majored in Industrial Engineering at Case Institute of Technology and was a Corrosion Consultant. Jim formerly owned and operated Bushman & Associates an independent consulting engineering firm for over 20 years. He was a P.E. (Professional Engineer), C.P.S. (Cathodic Protection Specialist) and S.C.T. (Senior Corrosion Technologist). Jim was one of only two persons to be recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Transportation as an Expert in Cathodic Protection, recipient of the 1994 Colonel George C. Cox Award for Individual Public Contribution to the Science of Underground Corrosion, recipient also of numerous certificates of appreciation from the U.S.Air Force, U.S. Army, NACE, AWWA, and the Steel Plate Fabricator's Association. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sharon Center and enjoyed playing golf. Jim served his country proudly in the U.S.Army.
He is survived by his wife Deborah (Catera), to whom he was married 12 years; sons Michael (Jennifer Peng) Bushman of Vancouver, BC, Robert Bushman of Phoenix, AZ; and step-daughters Kathleen (Abhijeet) Vijaywergiya of Independence and Rebecca Somnitz (Scott) Peters of Independence; grandchildren Alexander and Nathaniel Firlik, and Charles and Genevieve Peters; and brother John "Jack" (Suzanne) Bushman of Boston, MA. Jim is also survived by 4 cousins.
Services will be held Saturday, July 11, at 10:00 A.M., at the Waite & Son Funeral Home, 765 N. Court St., Medina. Rev. Judy McGuire will officiate. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Cleveland. Family will receive friends Friday from 4-8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
