Obituary

James R. Henderson, Jr., age 87 of Granger Township, passed away January 4, 2016. He was born in Akron on March 12, 1928 to the late James R. Henderson and Marie (Stagney) Henderson Crandall. James was employed as a machinist and foreman at the Ford Motor Co. CCP for 30 years and was a US Army veteran.

James was a member of Holy Martyrs Catholic Church, the Salaried Retiree Club of Ford, and a past active and honorary member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed farming and loved to work on old tractors. James enjoyed music but above all else loved his family.

James is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Sunday (Oliver); his loving children James R. Henderson, III, Jerome P. (Janet) Henderson, Jacqueline M. Henderson, and Jeffrey M. Henderson; dear granddaughter Jena (Josh) Abbott and great-grandchildren Lacy, Lindey, and John; and his brother Roland (Elaine) Crandall. He was preceded in death by his grandson Jonathan Henderson; maternal grandparents Peter and Anna Stagney- who were instrumental in raising him; and his step-father Orin Crandall.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 am, Friday, January 8, 2016 at Waite & Son Funeral Home, 765 N. Court St., Medina. Fr. Stephen Dohner will officiate, followed by burial with military honors at Granger-Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until the time of service on Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions may made to Akron General Justin T. Rogers Hospice Care Center, 3358 Ridgewood Road, Akron, OH 44333.
