Obituary

Longtime Medina resident Jane Lovejoy Riegger, aged 92, passed away at peace in the early morning hours of February 17 th , 2021 with her daughters Marcia and Jenny by her side. She was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on October 10 th , 1928, the only child of the late Beatrice Longacre and Harry O. Lovejoy, Jr. The family soon returned to Medina where Jane attended Medina High School before choosing to go to Northwestern University near Chicago. While there, she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority through which she forged many special lifelong friendships. After meeting her future husband, Robert "Bob" Riegger while back at home in Medina, she transferred to Ohio Wesleyan University where he was studying, and they finished their college years there together. Shortly after graduation, Jane and Bob were married on June 24 th , 1950 in Medina and were lucky to enjoy 69 happy and adventure-filled years raising their family together in Medina.

Jane worked as a social worker for a time before returning to Baldwin Wallace College to obtain her teaching credentials. She was a kindergarten teacher in the Medina City Schools for nearly 25 years before retiring in 1984. She was dedicated to her students and followed their accomplishments through the years, often sending cards upon their high school graduations and weddings. Lots of now grown-up children in Medina no doubt remember "Mrs. Riegger" fondly as their very first teacher. She volunteered as a Gray Lady at Medina Community Hospital during the early 1960s, was a member of the Kings Daughters service organization and loved playing bridge regularly with a circle of friends. Her time as a volunteer at the Hospice Resale Shop in Medina for the past several years was where she thrived and found friendships that she cherished.

Jane was an avid lover and collector of antiques and in 1987 she and her husband bought the store on the Square in Medina that they named "The Heirloom Cupboard". They enjoyed their shared love of antiquing and merchandising until 2001, when they began to spend more time at their newly acquired condominium near Fort Myers, Florida, where they also owned a little boat named "Lovejoy".  Sanibel Island also became one of Jane and Bob's favorite places, where they continued to visit until 2014.

Along with her own children, the loves of her life were her three granddaughters Lindsey, Emily and Kellen. As their "Nonnie", she loved to tell her friends about them, of their accomplishments and adventures, and would have done anything at all for each of them. Jane was a dedicated and loyal lady, with a lifetime of collected friends and family who loved her and will miss her.

Jane is survived by her daughters Marcia Riegger and Jenny (Jim) Sacher, both living in Lyndhurst, Ohio; granddaughters Lindsey (Jason Duca) Sacher, Emily (Jon McCracken) Sacher and Kellen Riegger.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Robert W. "Bob" Riegger.

A private service for Jane will be held at the United Church of Christ, Congregational with only her immediate family due to the inability to safely gather in a larger group at this time. Burial will be at Spring Grove Cemetery.
