Jerry A. Thompson, 72, of Medina, Ohio, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2026. He was born on January 31, 1954, in Fort Campbell, Kentucky, to the late Charles and Beatrice (Jones) Thompson.
Jerry proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. His dedication, discipline, and strong work ethic carried with him throughout his life and into his successful career as a skilled tradesman with Ford Motor Company. Jerry was a man who could fix just about anything. He took great pride in his work and in the many skills he learned over the years, always willing to figure something out, lend a hand, or take on a new project.
Jerry will be remembered for so many things that made him who he was. He had a lifelong passion for Mustangs and NASCAR, a love for Star Trek, and an incredible talent for tinkering. If something was broken, Jerry was usually the one who wanted to see if he could fix it. He enjoyed working with his hands, solving problems, and staying busy. More than anything, Jerry treasured his family and the time he spent with the people he loved.
He leaves behind a lifetime of memories that will be carried on by his family and friends. His humor, his determination, his willingness to help, and his one-of-a-kind personality will be deeply missed. Though his family will feel his absence every day, they can find comfort in knowing that his love, lessons, and memories will live on through the generations.
Jerry is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Deborah L. (Roberts) Thompson; his children, Denice Thompson, Tanya Cumberledge (Thomas), and Jeremy Thompson (Susan); grandchildren, Daniel Switter (Emma), Timothy Thompson, Jacob Switter (Megan), Elizabeth Case (Jake), Serenity Courtwright, Emily Thompson, Jacquelyn Thompson, Beatrice Thompson, Harlee Grace Cumberledge, and Thomas Cumberledge III; great-grandchildren, Kinsley, Atlas, Violet, and Juniper Bloom; and his brother, David Thompson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Beatrice Thompson; his grandson, Zack Thompson; and his brother, Ricky Thompson.
Jerry’s family will receive friends on Sunday, August 30, 2026, from 2:00–5:00 p.m. at Waite Funeral Home, 765 N. Court St., Medina, OH 44256.
He will be laid to rest with military honors at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Wounded Warrior Project in Jerry’s memory. https://share.google/vGKeL4zrIScVJROUg
