JoAnna (Blough) Freedman, age 74, of Medina, Ohio, passed away on May 31, 2023, in Mundelin, Illinois. She was born to Arnold and Alease (Gwaltney) Freedman on April 24, 1949, in New York City, New York. JoAnna lived in Florida as a child before she made her way to Medina, Ohio, where she raised her family. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church that is now New Life Christian Fellowship. JoAnna left a beautiful legacy in the gift of faith that both her children now have. She was also very proud to have served as the very first meter maid of Medina Ohio.

JoAnna was a resident in the Thrive of Mundelein long term care center. She moved from Medina after 41 years, to be closer to her daughter. She received exceptional and loving care there, especially from her c.n.a Miss Andy. JoAnna also resided for 10 years in the Concord Place Retirement Community in Northlake, Illinois. There she was blessed to receive loving, quality care and support. JoAnna enjoyed her friends, especially Mrs. Kathy Olive, who was her cheerleader and social director for the last year, and we are grateful to her. She enjoyed her independence and the ability to have a good cup of coffee and a cigarette with her friends. JoAnna loved having her dear cat, Bubula.

JoAnna is survived by her children, Luke (Arnold) Blough and his wife Qin Blough and Rachelle and husband Daniel Kowalczyk; her beloved grandchildren Zoe Anna Blough, Clare (Benji) Kowalczyk, Michael Kowalczyk; and her sister, Linda Egner. One of the highlights of her life was being Nana Jo and helping to raise Monica Marie Fullerton and Chad Woolsteen.

Visitation services will be held at Concord Place Retirement Community, 401 W Lake St, Northlake, IL 60164, in the Continental room on June 23, 2023, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. There will be a short prayer service from 6:00 to 6:30 p.m. that evening.

In addition, there will be a Celebration of Life visitation at Waite & Son Funeral Home, 765 N Court St, Medina, OH 44256, on July 10, 2023, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. with a short prayer service from 6:00 to 6:30 p.m. She will be laid to rest as she wished in Spring Grove Cemetery in a private ceremony with the family.
