Jody Ellen Lockard, age 73, passed away on September 8, 2026. She was born on October 28, 1952, in Bay Village, Ohio, to the late Joseph James and Elizabeth Jane (Alwin) Hayas. She attended and graduated from Brunswick High School. Though she spent the last 35 years living in Lodi, Jody always considered Brunswick her home.
Jody shared 51 years of marriage with her beloved husband, Harry Lockard. Together they raised two daughters, Megan (Daniel) Alcorn and Ashley Lockard (Timmy Dennis). She will also be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Haley, Danielle, and Remington; her brothers, Daniel Hayas and James (Gayle) Hayas; sisters-in-law, Karen (Donnie) Staley and Kathy (Fred) Berry; her nieces and nephews, and her beloved cat, Candi. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Betty; and her special aunt, Margaret Volkman.
Jody had a wonderful sense of humor and was known for being funny, warm, and loved by everyone who knew her. Her happiest moments were spent with family, especially her grandkids. She loved country music, with Conway Twitty being her all-time favorite. Jody adored celebrating all the holidays, but Christmas held a special place in her heart. It wasn't uncommon to see ten or more Christmas trees throughout her home, some kept beautifully decorated year-round.
She had a deep fondness for the beach and the ocean, particularly Hawaii, as well as a well-known love for flamingos. Her bright personality was reflected in her favorite colors: teal, pink, coral, and purple. Jody had a sweet tooth, never turning down a Dove chocolate and firmly believing that any day was a good day to eat cake for breakfast. More than anything, Jody will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She will be deeply missed by all who were privileged to know her and laugh with her.
Family and friends may gather for visitation on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Waite Funeral Home, 3300 Center Road, Brunswick. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Brook Park. In honor of Jody’s bright personality, her family encourages everyone to wear something colorful.
In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Kitten Krazy in Medina, Ohio. The family would like to thank the dedicated health care workers at Akron General Hospital. Words of comfort may be shared on Jody’s tribute page at www.waitefuneralhome.com.
