Obituary

John Andrew "Jack" Horstman, age 82, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2025, at the Cleveland Clinic in Akron, Ohio.

Jack was born on March 15, 1943, at Deaconess Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio, to Fred and Velma (Droll) Horstman. He grew up in Parma, Ohio, and spent most of his adult life in Medina, where he built a life rooted in hard work, lasting friendships, and deep personal connections.

Jack was a natural entrepreneur with a rare gift for connecting with people. He began his career with the Toro Company, where he became a highly successful salesman specializing in lawn equipment and irrigation systems. Driven by an entrepreneurial spirit, Jack later ventured into business ownership, opening several well-known nightclubs including Midnight Jam in Brunswick and Jaxx Nite Club in Medina and Amherst. These establishments reflected his welcoming and energetic personality, always centered around bringing people together.

Later in life, Jack transitioned into manufacturing. In May of 2000, he co-founded Firstar Precision Corporation, where he served as President until his retirement in 2016. His leadership, work ethic, and integrity left a lasting impression on employees, partners, and customers alike.

A lifelong Northeast Ohio resident, Jack was a passionate Cleveland sports fan and rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on his teams. He enjoyed bowling and was a proud member of a Medina bowling league for many years. He took great pride in his garden and lawn, which were filled with vibrant flowers and lush greenery, and he was especially known for his incredible lobster bisque and homemade hot sauces which he generously shared with friends and family.

More than anything, Jack will be remembered for who he was as a person. He had an extraordinary ability to light up a room and make people feel instantly comfortable. His warmth, humor, and genuine interest in others drew people to him wherever he went. Jack had a way of making everyone feel their best simply by being around him.

To his family, Jack was a loving, patient, and deeply supportive father and grandfather. He would do anything for anyone who needed help, never hesitating to offer his time, guidance, or encouragement. His kindness and generosity left a lasting impact on countless lives.

Jack is survived by his children, Cody Horstman and his wife, Rebecca; Kim Burke and her husband, Redmond; Kelly Hausmann; and Krissy Ramsey and her husband, Ed; and by his cherished grandchildren, Olivia Burke, Noelle Burke, Grace Burke, Bronsyn Hausmann, Brock Hausmann, Ava Hausmann, Jack Ramsey, Connor Ramsey, and Brynn Ramsey.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Velma Horstman, and his brothers, Tom Horstman, Jerry Horstman, and Chuck Horstman.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring of 2026, with details to be shared at a later date. Jack's family invites all who knew and loved him to join in honoring a life well lived and a man who brought warmth, laughter, and genuine connection to everyone fortunate enough to know him.
