It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of John C. Chesna, of Brunswick, Ohio, who departed this life on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at the age of 71. Born on June 10, 1955, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, John was the cherished son of John J. and Irene C. (Patterson) Chesna.
John's academic journey led him to earn a bachelor's degree from La Salle University, followed by a master's degree in Chemical Engineering from Drexel University. He dedicated a significant portion of his life to his profession, working as a Chemical Engineer at Dupont for over 38 years before his retirement. While working for Dupont, John was awarded 2 Patents. His commitment to excellence and innovation marked his career in the manufacturing industry, where he made lasting contributions. A devout member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, John’s faith was an integral part of his life. His involvement within the church community included being a member of the Knights of Columbus for over 30 years, as well as serving as Trustee and Recorder. He was also an active member of the Cancer Support Group, Men’s Breakfast, and Tai chi at St. Ambrose. In addition to his dedication to faith and family, John cherished his hobbies, which included fishing, operating his HAM radio, and engaging with Scouts, sharing his knowledge and passion with the next generation.
John is survived by his beloved wife, Nicola "Nina" (Vecchione) Chesna, with whom he shared 45 years of loving marriage. He is also survived by his children and their spouses, Danielle (Ted) Maleski, John A. Chesna, Theresa (Scott) Thomson, and James (Devin) Chesna, his mother, Irene C. Chesna, as well as his adored grandchildren, Nicholas, Olivia, Sarah, Daniel, Joseph, Matthew, Cole, and Laura. John will be deeply missed by his siblings, Constance Chesna, Scott (Denise) Chesna, and Mark (Janice) Chesna, along with his sister-in-law, Lyn Chesna.
He was preceded in death by his father, John J. Chesna and his brother, Eric Chesna.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in honor of John’s life at St. Ambrose Catholic Church on Friday, September 18, 2026. Friends may gather to pay their respects from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, with the Mass commencing at 11:00 AM. Following the Mass, interment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery in Valley City, achieving a final resting place for a life well-lived and a loving soul at peace. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either: Buckeye’s Missions and Sanctuary – www.buckeyesmissionsanctuary.com or a local Cancer Research of your choice.
