John E. Lahr, age 91, was called home to Jesus on June 11, 2017 surrounded by his family. He was born on November 29, 1925 in Coloma, Michigan to the late Elton C. and Ethel (VanAtter) Lahr. John retired from GTE with almost 40 years of service. He served his country proudly as a US Army veteran during WWII where he lost his brothers Richard and Donald while they were all serving in the Philippines. He was a member of Medina Noon Kiwanis, Medina and Clyde Masonic Lodges, and the Knights of Pythias. John was a devout member of Weymouth Community Church where he served on the Board of Elders, taught Sunday school, VBS and Pioneers Clubs, and enjoyed nursery duty. John lead Vesper services where he and his wife resided at Nottingham Court from 1992-2012. John is survived by his beloved wife of over 69 years Ruth (Cook); his loving daughters Ruth (Viv) Shanafelt, Janice (Denny) Raypole, Jeannie (Bob) Norton, and Rita (Doug) Eastwood; grandchildren Dennis and Billy Raypole, Nancy (Brian) Hennings, Matt Shanafelt, Bobby (Kristin) Norton, Rebekah (Jonathan) Waldrep, Jared (Hannah) Norton, Sharin (Justin) Harvey, Anna (Steven) Kemp, Molly (Greg) Schaap, Maureen and Peter Norton, and Emma and Tarah Eastwood; 16 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandsons. He was also preceded in death by two other brothers, Jerry and Bobby Lahr. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at Waite & Son Funeral Home, 765 N. Court St., Medina. Pastor John Lurtz will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the funeral home.
