John James Russ, age 72, of Columbus, passed away August 29, 2019.  He was born on October 12, 1946 in Port Chester, New York to the late John J. and Carmella (DeCarlo) Russ.  John honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy.  John enjoyed playing chess and completed in many chess matches nearly earning the rank of master.  He will be dearly missed.

John is survived by his daughters Kathy and Karen; brothers Thomas (Cathy), William (Rosemary), Tony (Sharon), and Ken Russ and Sam and Michael Susko; sisters Helen (Matthew) Soboslay and Kim Susko; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his brother George A. Russ, Sr.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, September 12, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Waite and Son Funeral Home, 765 N. Court St. in Medina, where the family will receive friends on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial with military honors will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
