John Michael Scanlon, 74, passed away December 12, 2023. He was born February 5, 1949, in Olean, New York, to the late John and Ann (nee McLaughlin) Scanlon.

John, lovingly known by his family as "Johnny Mike," was married to his high school sweetheart, Sylvia (nee Hanby), for 45 years, until her passing in 2015. He was a graduate of Alfred State University in Alfred, PA, earning his degree in ceramic engineering. In his younger years, John was a member of the Clearfield Jaycees in Clearfield, PA. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and most of all, spending time with his family.

Left to cherish John's memory are his children, Colleen Scanlon (Thomas Stawicki, Jr.) and Sean (Cheryl) Scanlon; grandchildren, Erin and Kyle; and sisters, JoAnn (Larry) Briody and Janet (Gerry) Sczudlo. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia; and parents, John and Ann.

The family will welcome guests from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Monday, December 18, 2023, and 10:00 am to 12:00 pm on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at Waite & Son Funeral Home, 3300 Center Road, Brunswick, OH. A funeral service will take place following the visitation at 12:00 pm on Tuesday. John will be laid to rest with his wife, Sylvia, at Sunset Memorial Park in North Olmsted, Ohio.
