Obituary

Jonathan Harlon Newlands, age 47, of Medina, Ohio, previously Leavenworth, KS, passed away on January 28, 2025. Born on May 7, 1977, in Cleveland, Ohio, Jon lived life with passion, adventure, and an unshakable dedication to those he loved.

Jon proudly served his country in the United States Army, where he earned multiple Army Commendation Medals, Achievement Medals, and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal for his support of Joint Task Force GTMO. His career in Army Corrections Command took him through numerous roles, including serving as an Advanced Individual Training instructor at the Military Police School. Jon's leadership and mentorship extended far beyond his rank, earning the respect and admiration of those who served alongside him.

Beyond his military service, Jon had a love for adventure and the great outdoors. He found joy in off-roading, spending countless hours working on and modifying his Jeep, always ready for the next rugged trail. He had a deep love for fishing, the solitude of the wilderness, and the thrill of exploring new places. Jon never hesitated to pack up and travel, seeking out new adventures wherever he could. His love for dogs, especially his beloved Otto, was unwavering.

Jon was a big guy with an even bigger heart. His kindness, loyalty, and larger-than-life personality made him a friend to nearly everyone he met and a brother to many. Whether through his military service, his off-road adventures, or simply the way he showed up for others, Jon left an indelible mark on the lives he touched.

Jon is survived by his father, Curtis J. Newlands (Teresa); his mother, Darlene Eubanks; his brothers, Curtis J. Newlands Jr., Ronald G. Newlands, and Bruce W. Newlands; his extended Military Family; and many beloved uncles, aunts, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Harlon C. and Lucille Newlands, Ann Wojtalewicz, and Albert Soos, as well as his faithful companion, Otto.

Jon's legacy will live on through the memories of his adventures, the friendships he built, and the love he shared. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
