Obituary

Josef Lugert, 76. Born on April 2, 1947 in Bavaria, Germany, passed away in the early hours of April 20, 2023.

Dear husband of Hilde (nee Glatt) for 54 years. Loving and proud father of Christian (Aubrey) and cherished Opa of Evan and Owen. Brother of Evi Kunz (partner Markus). "Uncle Sepp" is also survived by niece Lisa and family, nephews Eric, Karl (Althea) and family, and Paul (Kriss); brother-in-law Roland Glatt (Barbara, partner deceased) , sister-in-law Ingrid Glatt (Gunther, deceased).

In 1969 Joe emigrated from Munich, where he had completed an apprenticeship in precision Die Making (Feinmechaniker), to Cleveland. He married Hilde and started a long career in the Tool & Die and Metal Stamping industry. In 1977 he and two partners founded Impact Industries which they sold after a successful 14 year run. According to his partner and friend, Bob Meske, "Joe was really one hell of a die maker. His expertise and high standards were key to the company's success." He continued working in his field at ATD until his retirement.

Joe was blessed with a healthy sense of humor and an infectious laugh. Not only did he have a seemingly endless supply of jokes in his younger days, his always funny pranks caused much merriment. This was especially the case on the many beach, fishing or European vacations with family and friends which continued for most of his life. He enthusiastically passed on his love of fishing and fast cars to his deeply loved son and grandsons. In his retirement he reverted to his childhood love of model trains and designed, maintained and endlessly tinkered with an intricately detailed Bavarian themed train layout.

Our special thanks to Dr. Amanda Berlekamp and Dr. Eric Kirby for their competency, genuine compassion and the attentive care they provided for our husband and father.

A Celebration of Joe's life will be held this summer.

In lieu of flowers, enjoy a Weissbier or two in memory of Joe!
