Obituary

Judith A. (Whitcomb) Lichtenberg, 82, of Medina, Ohio, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2025 . Judy was born September 17, 1942 in Ashland, Ohio to Virgil "Budd" Whitcomb and LaDonna (Smith) Whitcomb.

Judy was a 1960 graduate of Ashland High School, and a 1966 graduate of Ashland College with a Bachelor of Science in Education, She also earned a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction and Gifted Education from Cleveland State University.

Judy taught kindergarten and outdoor education for Worthington Schools in Columbus before taking time away from teaching to raise her children. She returned to teaching in 1980 as a teacher of Talented and Gifted for Midview Local Schools. Judy continued her career as an educator in 1990 as a Coordinator of Gifted Services for various districts through the Educational Service Center of Cuyahoga County and served as the Gifted Coordinator for Medina City Schools from 1998-2000. She was remembered by her students as a dedicated teacher who deeply cared for them, nurtured creative and critical thinking, and taught them life lessons they carry with them to this day.

Judy served for many years as a volunteer for Medina Hospital, brightening others days with her  welcoming smile. She found joy in spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, as well as camping, sewing, traveling, and baking.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents and by her beloved husband, Ed Lichtenberg. A devoted mother, Judy is survived by her two loving children Robert (Rebecca) Lichtenberg, and Elizabeth (Christopher) Burdick. She will be forever remembered by her 3 grandchildren, Ryan, Brendan, and Sarah Burdick and 3 bonus grandchildren, Abbey (Evan) Johr, Colin, and Kieran Clark.

Calling hours will be held on August 14, 2025,  from 2-4:00 and 6-8:00 pm at Waite Funeral Home, 765 N. Court St., Medina, Ohio 44256 and at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church 1800 Station Rd., Valley City, Ohio 44280 on August 15, 2025, from 10-11:00 am. A funeral mass will be held at St. Martin of Tours Chapel at 11:00 on August 15, 2025, following the calling hours. Following the service, Judy will be laid to rest along with her husband at St. Martin of Tours Church Cemetery.
