Obituary

Judith Reed Weir, age 86, passed away peacefully at home in Medina surrounded by her beloved family on June 4, 2025. She was born on August 24, 1938, in Caledonia, Ohio to the late Wesley and Jane (Stokley) Reed. Judith attended Edison High School Class of 1956 in Morrow County, Ohio. She went on to achieve her bachelor's degree in education and her major in Economics. She met and married the love of her life, David L. Weir in July of 1960. Following her marriage, she taught business subjects at high schools in Andover, Ashtabula, and Jefferson, Ohio along with the Ashtabula County vocational school. While living in Jefferson she was serving as President of the Jefferson Area Board of Education when she moved to Columbus with her husband. She was a Trustee of the Henderson Memorial Library serving as its Clerk and Treasurer during the construction of the new library in 1973. Judy organized a non-profit corporation to establish a preschool nursery (now located in the Recreation Center) in Jefferson in 1973 and served as its first president. The family moved to Hilliard in 1975 where she was an instructor at the Columbus Technical Institute in Accounting, Personnel Management and Introduction to Business. Judy was the president of Hilliard School System's Music Booster's Association.  After several years of working for insurance agents, Judy became the Office Manager of the Columbus branch of Guardian Life Insurance Company. She remained in Columbus after leaving that position and became a corporate trainer for the Guardian Home Office in New York City. When Judy finally retired in 2001, the family home in Hilliard was sold and she became the official co-pilot of an RV with David and they enjoyed traveling for 20 years prior to moving to Medina, Ohio. Her hobbies of quilting and knitting have provided beautiful hand made quilts for friends and family members along with winter caps to warm the ears of hundreds of people.

Judy is survived by her beloved husband of almost 65 years, David L. Weir; her children, Jack K. (Marian) Weir of Wilmington, Delaware, Wesley R. (Kerri) Weir of Broadview Heights, Ohio; her beloved grandchildren, Ty and Kate Weir and Kelsey and Cameron Weir; and sister, Barbara (Lee) Bockleman; along with a lifetime of dear friends and colleagues.
