Karl Faschian of Medina passed away peacefully on June 12, 2026, at the age of 91. He was born on January 18, 1935, in Todtmoos Glashütte, Germany.
As a teenager, Karl immigrated to the United States to live with his uncle, Erwin Gratzer, and aunt, Helen Gratzer. He was proud to become an American and later served in the United States Army, where he was stationed in Germany in the same platoon unit as Elvis Presley.
While serving overseas, Karl met the love of his life, Ludmilla. Their love story began with a little humor. Karl introduced himself as “Tony” and claimed to be American born. That story lasted until someone nearby asked for a chair in German, and Karl answered without thinking in perfect German, he had to admit the truth. Thankfully, Ludmilla forgave him, and they eloped in Basel, Switzerland. They shared a beautiful marriage for 60 years. Ludmilla passed away on March 17, 2020, shortly after they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
Karl spent his entire career with S & Z Tool and Die in Cleveland, where he worked for more than 46 years. He served as Vice President of Operations and, even after retiring, continued consulting with the company, helping them establish its branch in Mexico.
Karl is survived by his three children: Greg Faschian, Mike (Dina) Faschian, and Linda (Eric Davies) Crosby. He was a proud grandfather to Michael Faschian, Mitchell (Hannah) Faschian, Jack Crosby, Lauren Crosby, and Luke Crosby, and was overjoyed to become a great grandfather to Tripp Faschian.
Karl had a lifelong passion for golf. He was a member of Medina Country Club during the 1980s and 1990s before moving to a home on Weymouth Country Club, where he became a member in 1999 and remained one for the rest of his life. Even after he could no longer play, he enjoyed lunch at the clubhouse while watching golfers finish their rounds.
He was also a man who appreciated routine. For many years, daily he would eat breakfast at Yours Truly and later the same day eat dinner at Santosuossos in Medina. He had his regular bar stool seat at both places.
During the winter months, Karl enjoyed spending time at his home in Hernando, Florida, where he played golf at Citrus Hills Golf Club until he no longer could travel.
Karl also had a love for sports cars and took great pride in owning many beautiful cars throughout the years.
Above all, Karl will be remembered as a hardworking, devoted husband, loving father and grandfather (Opa), loyal friend, and someone who truly enjoyed life’s simple pleasures. His love for his family, his dedication to his work, and the countless memories he created will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered. The family will host an open visitation on Monday, June 15th 12:00-2:00 p.m. at Waite Funeral Home in Medina.
