James Walters

Lawrence "Larry" James Walters, age 78, passed away on November 25, 2024 in Medina Ohio. Larry was born to Richard & Gertrude (nee: Endreszl) Walters in Charleroi, PA. Larry's many achievements included being an Eagle Scout, graduated from Mon Valley High School, Class of 1964; earned his B.A from California University in California, PA; and his MBA from Butler University in Indianapolis, IN. He went on with a career in the insurance industry, 30 years with AON, including 20 years as the V.P. of Claims in the Cayman Islands, retiring in 2014.
Larry was an avid athlete and outdoorsman. His favorite fishing "holes" were along the Monongahela and Rocky Rivers. He participated in multiple marathons and triathlons worldwide. He served as the President of Cayman Islands Triathlon Association for many years. Larry swam competitively and founded the Seven Mile Beach Swim Club encouraging others in health and comraderie. Larry and Debbie met on Seven Mile Beach, Grand Cayman, were they married 3 years later on April 13, 2013. Larry was known for his annual party on the beach, "U.S. Thanksgiving Cayman Style". He was the master turkey carver as he hosted the best Thanksgiving party on the island for almost 20 years.
He served others and his communities in many ways. His most important roles were being a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, brother, cousin, friend, and volunteer. His dedication, encouragement, generosity, and loving spirit will be missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents Robert & Gertrude, and brothers Richard (Carol) and Bud (Linda).
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 11 years, Debra Ann Illes; children Dave (Carla) Walters, Charley (Robin) Walters, Michael Walters, Jane (Josh) Simon, Erica Haluazka, and Evan (Hannah) DiMatteo; grandchildren Jacob (Rowan), Abbey, Sarah, Jason, Amya, Eve, Alaina, Joe, Mady, Ellie, and Brooke; and great-grandson Isiah; and sister Gina Walters.
The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation for the care and support of the staff of Cypress Hospice and the Echelon of Medina. In lieu of flowers, family suggests donations in Larry's name to the Cayman Islands Triathlon Association at
