Lawrence D. Newberry III, age 58, a lifetime resident of Medina, passed away Thursday, April 15, 2010 in Cleveland. Larry was born Nov.13, 1951 in Akron, OH to Larry and Jean (nee Bowman) Newberry. He will always be remembered for his great sense of humor, he was a wonderful son, brother, cousin and friend. In his high school years, Larry was a skilled drummer who had a passion for 60's and 70's music, which he played in his own garage band. He enjoyed traveling, especially to the San Francisco Bay area to visit family and make his traditional walk across the Golden Gate Bridge. He was an avid Ohio State football and local sports fan. He graduated from Medina High School in 1970 and The Ohio State University in 1974 with a degree in Communications. Larry worked as a sewer inspector for the Medina County Sanitary Engineer's office, retiring after 36 years. He was an important member of the Medina City Special Police for 25 years and was very active in the March of Dimes. He was the dear brother of Michal Jane Newberry of Columbus, Life partner Nancy Lightner of Hinckley, cousin to Kitty Keller, Anne Gregoire, Jamie Gregoire (Lori), Angie Johnson & Tiffanie Kott (Don), all of Medina Tim(Laura) Gregoire of CA, Sandra Hill (Tom) & Jennifer (Greg) Thorne, of Portland, OR, David Hill (Vickie) of Oberlin, OH, Carole Hegg, Laura Lynn (Dennis) Miller, Doug Hegg of CA. Preceded in death by his mother Jean B. Newberry, father Larry D. Jr, Aunts Bea B. Hegg and Frances Dean. At the request of the family, no public services will be held. The family suggests contributions be sent to the Larry Newberry III Memorial Fund, c/o Waite & Son Funeral Home, 765 N. Court St., to be used towards a memorial bench on the square in his memory, or the Medina Community Design Committee, 141 S. Prospect St., Medina.
