Leslie Matt
"Les" Guzik
June 5, 1943 – August 14, 2025
Leslie Matt "Les" Guzik, age 82, of Brunswick, passed away at home on August 14, 2025. Born June 5, 1943, in Cleveland, Ohio, Les lived a full and spirited life marked by devotion, laughter, and kindness.
Les shared 47 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Sally (Otto) Guzik, who was truly the love of his life. He was the proud father of Vaughn (deceased) (Kathryn) Guzik and Laura Guzik, and the cherished grandfather of Margaret, Kaleb, and Madelyn. He will also be missed by his brother, Russ (Becky) Stoutenburgh, sister-in-law Bonnie (Wayne) Hudson, brother-in-law, Ronald Geese (Sherrie, deceased), and lifelong friends, Richard (Rebecca) Kenderes, Houston (Maryanna) Lake, and Chuck (Beverly) Zingale; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family. Preceding Les in death were his parents, Matthew and Maxine (Harris) Guzik; his son, Vaughn Guzik, and his sister, Christine Bartel.
Les proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Reserves during the Cold War era (1968). He later built a 43-year career as a talented sign painter with Brilliant Electric Sign Co. A man of many passions, Les was an autograph collector, lifelong learner, and avid reader with an endless curiosity and a wealth of knowledge. He loved books, history, and storytelling, and was never without something uplifting to share. He had a gift for giving back, often sending cards to friends and loved ones, simply to brighten their day.
Les was also a proud member of the American Legion and the Al Jolson Society, where he enjoyed the camaraderie and joy of music. His gentle humor, shy but talkative nature, and thoughtful spirit left a lasting impression on everyone he met. Those who knew Les will remember his uplifting presence, his generosity of spirit, and his love of life's simple joys. His legacy lives on in the stories he shared, the laughter he inspired, and the love he poured into his family and friends.
A celebration of Les's life will take place at 4:00 pm on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at Waite Funeral Home, 3300 Center Road, Brunswick, Ohio, followed by visitation until 5:30 pm. A reception will follow at American Legion Parma Heights Post 703, 7667 York Road, Parma, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages acts of kindness in Les's memory—send a card, share a smile, or lend a hand to someone in need, just as he so often did.
