Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lester F. Austin, 73, of Columbia Station, who left us peacefully at his home surrounded by family on July 22, 2026. Born on July 7, 1953, in Berea, Ohio, Lester was the cherished son of the late Oscar and Marian Austin. Lester's journey began in Columbia Station, where he graduated from Columbia High School in 1971. Growing up on a horse and cattle farm instilled in him a deep love for the land and its life, and he carried that passion forward as an avid vegetable gardener. After 30 years dedicated to his trade, he retired as a diesel mechanic from RTA, where he was known for his skill and reliability. Lester loved his Wednesday, Retirees Day’. Not only was Lester a craftsman, but he was also a mentor and coach to many in the community, enjoying the joy of coaching tee-ball and softball. In his younger years, Lester pursued his adventurous spirit as a Pro Stock motorcycle drag racer and car racer, capturing the thrill of speed and competition. Lester was an avid golfer as well. He was known as 'Mr. Fix It,' always ready to lend a hand to anyone in need. Together with his beloved wife, Pam, who he shared a wonderful 53 years of marriage with, Lester created countless joyful memories, especially during their travels to the Western and Southwestern States. Lester's family holds him dear in their hearts: his wife Pam, children Jodi and Jeff Austin, grandchildren Thomas O. (Taylor) Brancatelli, Kyle, Trevor, Dawn, and Jacob Lunar, along with numerous other family members and friends who will cherish his memory. A time for family and friends to gather will take place at the Waite Funeral Home - Brunswick Chapel. On Friday, August 7, 2026, the family will welcome guests from 10 am to 12 pm, followed by a Celebration of Lester's life at 12 pm. These moments will be an opportunity to share stories, laughter, and tears as we honor a truly remarkable man.
