Lynn Russell "Russ" Palmateer, age 91, passed away on Friday, December 13, 2024, at his home at the Western Reserve Masonic Community in Medina, Ohio, with his son and daughter at his side. He has made his heavenly journey to be with the love of his life, Mildred "Mickie" Palmateer, to whom he was married for nearly 64 years, and his faithful dog Nikki.

Russ was born to the late Russell Eugene and Clara Agnes (Johnson) Palmateer on February 6, 1933, in Ridgway, PA, lived his childhood in Emporium, PA, and graduated from Emporium High School. He attended Baldwin-Wallace College, where he was president of Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity, Tau Triton Chapter. Soon after his graduation, he served in the US Navy aboard the USS Wisconsin. He was employed for 33 years in the North Royalton School System as a middle school Communications/Ohio History teacher. He was active with Medina Blue Lodge #58 and Scottish Rite Valley of Cleveland, where he enjoyed performing in degree work and serving as secretary/treasurer. His love was his family and friends, especially those in the Order of Eastern Star, where he served as Patron three times. His true passion was his wife and their travels and camping for many years.

Russ is survived by his children Jeffery Palmateer and Michele Palmateer-Cunningham (Mike);  grandchildren Danielle Mullenax (Lucas), Jacki Palmateer (Jesse Braun), Nicholas Palmateer (Natalie), Mike Cunningham (Lauren), and Mark Cunningham (Madison Fisher);  numerous nieces and nephews; and a lifetime of collected friends and colleagues. He was proceeded in death by his parents; his wife, Mickie; his daughter, Kimberly Simmons; his sister, Olivia Washburn; and his sisters- and brothers-in-law, Elaine and Rudy Rutan and Roberta and Dick Richardson.

The family will receive friends from 4-7:00 pm on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at Waite Funeral Home, 765 N. Court St., Medina, OH 44256 with a Masonic Service to be held at 6:45 pm.

A funeral service will be held 1:00 pm Friday, December 20th  at the funeral home.  Burial with military honors will follow at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at 2:45 pm, where Russ will be laid to rest with his beloved wife, Mickie.
