Martha Susan
Catherwood
October 24, 1959 – July 25, 2025
Martha Susan Catherwood (nee Dannery), 65, of Hinckley Township, passed away Friday, July 25, 2025 at her home in Hinckley. She was born October 24, 1959, in Youngstown to Joseph and June Dannery (nee Weinheimer).
She is survived by her loving husband of 37 years, Kenneth Catherwood of Hinckley; devoted sons Ian Moy (Erin) of Columbus, Joseph Catherwood of Granger, Ken Jr of Columbus and Tim Catherwood (Jenny) of Medina; precious granddaughters Taya, Brooklyn, Gretchen, Madeline, Violet and Verity; siblings, Joseph Dannery III of Seville, Jennifer Napier (Michael) of Sharon Township and Thomas Dannery (Diane) of Hinckley; and 10 adoring nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law William Wagar.
She received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Visual Communications Technology from BGSU and a Masters Degree from Cleveland State University in Urban and Public Planning. Also from CSU, she completed an Associate Degree in Health Information Systems.
She served her community as a Hinckley Township Trustee from 2008 - February 2017 and as Hinckley Township Fiscal Officer from February 2017 - until her Retirement November 2024. She served on the Medina County Planning Commission 2009 - 2013. Through the years, she was Hinckley PTO President, involved herself with Hinckley Chamber of Commerce, Hinckley Community Outreach and many other organizations. She was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church.
Martha grew up in Hinckley, and after a short stint in New York City, moved back to raise her family on the Hinckley Ridge, eventually buying back the family farmhouse. Martha was a leader, organizer, consoler and friend. She was at the center of neighborhood and community events, making things happen. She will be remembered for the hayrides and spook houses for the neighborhood kids each Halloween or handing out spatulas to the pancake flippers at the Annual Hinckley Buzzard Day Celebration each spring or working on a river restoration project. If something needed done, you could find Martha with her sleeves rolled up. She could easily pivot from Robert's Rules of Order at a township meeting to sewing up a dress up gown for her granddaughters to brewing up a pot of tea for a friend. She loved gardening, taking road trips with her copilot Ken to 48 states and visits to the beloved Montana relatives and spending time with her beautiful children and granddaughters. Martha's ever-present positive attitude, love of knowledge and simplicity, and love of family will forever be her legacy.
There will be no services at Martha's request. She wanted to be remembered for how she lived. In lieu of flowers and in the spirit of Martha, stop in and visit a neighbor or make contributions to Hospice of Western Reserve Donations at Huntington Bank PO Box 72700, Cleveland OH 44192. Interment: Hinckley Ridge Cemetery.
