Mary Lou Carol (Gorey) Fern, 75, of Brunswick, Ohio, passed away April 22, 2026. Born October 22, 1950, in Canton, Ohio, Mary Lou was the daughter of the late Edward and Wilma (Heaston) Gorey.

She was the devoted wife of the late Carl E. Fern Jr., who preceded her in death in 2010. She is survived by her loving sons, Daniel (Maricela, deceased) and Carl III. She also leaves behind her cherished brother, Jan Gorey. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Edward and James.

Mary Lou worked for many years as a meat wrapper, most recently at the Brunswick Giant Eagle. She was a familiar and friendly face to customers and coworkers alike.

Mary Lou had a deep love for animals, especially dogs and cats, and found joy in life's quiet moments—watching birds from her kitchen window, enjoying crime television, and keeping a close eye on the weather. She loved music, especially classic rock and pop from the 1960s, often playing it throughout the day. Known for her feisty spirit and sharp personality, she also had a big heart, remaining fiercely loyal and deeply devoted to her family.

She had a sweet tooth and especially enjoyed bakery treats, along with her daily coffee and Diet Coke. Her favorite color was yellow, a reflection of her bright and spirited nature.

Family and friends are invited to gather for a Celebration of Mary Lou's life from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday, May 1, 2026, at Waite Funeral Home, 3300 Center Road, Brunswick, Ohio.
