It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Maynard Zebedee Walters, who departed this life peacefully on August 17, 2026, at the age of 88. Born on May 30, 1938, in Danville, Virginia, Maynard was the cherished son of the late John and Eva Walters.
A dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Maynard is remembered for his unwavering devotion to family and community. He honorably served in the United States Air Force for 32 years, embodying a spirit of service and commitment that was central to his character. Following his military career, Maynard found fulfillment in his professional life as the purchasing director for the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority, where he worked for a decade. Deeply involved in his community, Maynard was a proud member of the Sons of the American Revolution and lent his guidance as a Chaplain for the renowned Billy Graham. His contributions also extended to the Community of Believers in Cuyahoga Falls. Beyond his professional and community pursuits, Maynard had a profound love for genealogy, delighting in sharing his discoveries with family during cherished reunions. He also had a passion for bird watching and a heartwarming affection for his beloved cats. Together with his wife, Caroline, he created a beautiful home in North Carolina, where they shared countless memories over their 64 years of marriage. Maynard is survived by his loving wife, Caroline (French) Walters; daughter Lee (Eric) Franklyn; son Chris Walters; grandchildren Calvin, Jarred (Alex), and Wayland Franklyn; great-grandson Jack Franklyn; as well as numerous nieces and nephews who will carry forward his legacy of love and generosity. Maynard is preceded in death by his parents, brothers William and Johnny Walters, sister Mary Mosley, and twin infant brothers.
